PMDG goes classic with the DC-6B

Over at their support forum at Avsim, Robert Randazzo of PMDG has announced that their “Secret Project #1″ is not, as many expected, another modern airliner, but instead one from an earlier age – the Douglas DC-6B Cloudmaster.

According to this thread (which is at three pages and extending fast, predictably), while the DC-6B will be designed to have system depth, it won’t be aimed at directly competing with A2A Simulations‘ Accu-Sim lineup so there won’t be a failures module. Even without failures or a Heidi-a-like, however, this one will probably be a very popular choice.

Oovee release FSX C337 soundset

There must be something about the uniqueness of the C337 Skymaster that acts like a magnet to sound developers. Pilots of the type in FSX now have not only the original, but now two different sound sets available to replace it as well.

The name Oovee may be more familiar to our Rail Simulator using readers as they have created a number of add-ons for its various incarnations, but they have now made their soundset for the Skymaster available as well, demonstrated by the video above. For more information and to purchase the soundset, please visit the product page at simMarket.

The aircraft being used to demonstrate the soundset in the video is the Carenado HD Series C337H Skymaster, available here.

Project CARS new build available

Here’s another racing title that we haven’t mentioned on the Front Page before, but again for our racing sim community readers, there’s another option on the horizon.

Developers Slightly Mad Studios, best known for their less-than-simulation “Shift” and “Shift2” titles for Electronic Arts, are living slightly up to their name by creating a sim which is funded by the community and users not at the end, as usual, but during development. Yesterday, Slightly Mad released Junior Build 144 to their membership, introducing new tracks (“Northampton” – anyone want to guess whether that used to be a USAAF bomber station’s peri track?) and new cars to the bottom level membership while, a day earlier, they published new Hi-Res screenshots of a more classic racing car.

It’ll be interesting to watch how Project CARS fares compared to the more established opposition, all of whom have new builds or new sims in the pipeline. It certainly looks like a contender.

Iris Silence Twister Version 3

Bored of your usual aerial mount? Fancy trying something a little different? Well, if you’ll pardon the pun, here’s an update to an aircraft with an unusual ‘twist’ for you to check out.

Iris Simulations’ Pro Series Silence Twister is a scaled-up version of the world-beating model aerobatic aircraft, developed by Thomas and Matthias Streiker in Germany. Updated to Version 3, but still only available for MS FSX SP2 or Acceleration before the FS2004 types ask, the Twister now comes with three engine options from an 80hp Jabiru to the slightly less sane RR300 Turboprop, alternate textures for those whose machines won’t cope with the default 4096×4096 and a model swapper to allow for direct integration of 3rd party gauges, amongst other features.

Butnaru’s KMIA for X-Plane

As user take-up and developer expansion of Laminar Research’s X-Plane 10 increases, we’re finally starting to see the world improving to a better state than default.

The latest airport to be enhanced, by Butnaru, is Florida’s Miami International Airport, KMIA.

Quite apart from being a popular holiday destination, Miami is also the primary entry point to the United States for many passengers from Central and South America, so is one of the busiest airports in the USA. Featuring static aircraft to give the airport more life, animated personnel on the ramps and modelled terminal interiors, KMIA for X-Plane can be found here.
